Historical Sexual Abuse

Back to Services

In these cases, a plaintiff will often be claiming past and future earnings losses, as well as future costs of care (for the cost of future counselling, for example). Unlike in a personal injury case, however, the past loss of earnings may extend back many decades. By their very nature, estimations of lost income in these matters can only be illustrative aids. Nevertheless, a review of historical earnings statistics and inflation rates can be very useful providing an economically plausible hypothetical picture of the absent abuse past. It should also be kept in mind that when the claim for lost earnings stretches back so many years, the quantum of pre-judgement interest can become extremely significant, especially in view of the high interest rates prevalent in some past years.
